Saturday night saw a fantastic Sofar Sounds event take place at our Mayfair space. The show had all the hallmarks that typically make Sofar great: intimacy, fun and a good cause. The lineup included the wonderfully sonorous Teshay Makeda; the lyrical poetry of Stand for Humanity and the infectious brio of Ganda Boys.
This was the third Sofar sounds event hosted at Unit London and they really do keep on getting better. The stand out act had to be the Ugandan collective Ganda Boys who, since their debut appearance on the BBC’s Moses Jones in 2008, have striven to help refugees in Uganda. Daniel and Denis, the wonderfully charismatic font men, are from the Buganda tribe (the biggest kingdom in Uganda) and have founded the Ganda Foundation: a campaign which aims to eliminate period poverty in Uganda. In rural Uganda 28% of girls don’t go to school when they get their periods, causing them to miss around 20% of the school year. This is because girls don’t have access to sanitary products or hygienic toilets, Ganda Boys’ goal is to help 1 million girls by 2022. Click to learn more and donate to the Ganda Foundation.
It was great to host such a vibrant evening for a great cause. Hope to see U all again soon!
