For the inaugural edition of the ART SG Art Fair in Singapore (12- 15 January 2023) Unit London is thrilled to announce a special collaboration with Infinite Objects.
A New-York based start-up, Infinite Objects is reimagining what is possible in the NFT space by providing physical frames for digital art.
Each of Krista Kim’s Superblue v.3 NFTs, on display and available for purchase at our booth (RE05), is inextricably linked to an Infinite Object screen – enabling collectors to take their digital work home with them in a tangible form.
Crucially, they introduce a physical component without losing the NFTs’ fundamental connection to the blockchain. A QR code, built into the reverse of each frame, is uniquely customised to link to an on-chain NFT. Each physical frame, or ‘video print’, is inextricably tied to the work that it displays, and, through the QR code, permanently imbued with the authenticity of blockchain data, enabling collectors to prove their ownership at any time. By transforming video NFTs into physical animations, Infinite Objects demonstrates a sensitivity to both traditional and Web3 collector sensibilities, uniting the established and emerging worlds of contemporary art.
NFTs, like all nascent technologies, have been slow to be accepted and critically appreciated by the traditional art world. Infinite Objects is helping to spotlight the vast array of digital work with rich aesthetic, imaginative and intellectual content. Requiring no connectivity, updates, or virtual interfaces, these authenticated – and immutable – design objects shift focus to the content in its purest form and challenge the tendency to rapidly consume images online.
More significantly, they demonstrate the power of displaying natively digital artwork in a real-life setting. People may not understand NFTs nor have any blockchain knowledge, but they will certainly be able to relate to the feeling of engaging with an artwork in a physical space. This seamless transmutation from the digital to the physical has unsurprisingly earned Infinite Objects a place in TIME magazine’s prestigious annual list of ‘Best Inventions’.
The Pertinence of Krista’s Work to an Infinite Object
Krista has developed a visual language of shifting multidimensional gradients, exploring the interconnectivity between physical and digital consciousness. In a world where the distinction between the two is becoming increasingly blurred, Krista’s work serves as an important catalyst for discussions on how digital innovation can be directed toward positive societal change. Whilst traditional art enthusiasts often suggest that some element of humanity is lost by creating art through computers, Krista uses them to explore what it means to be human today. Embodying a philosophy of ‘digital humanism’, her works demonstrate an approach to building a technological future where human needs and values take centre stage. As perfect amalgamations of physical and digital, Infinite Objects manifest a similar conviction in the power of digital creation to unite rather than divide us.
Imbued with a sense of the transcendental and the meditative, Superblue v.3, offers a digital Zen experience, transforming the screen into a mechanism of healing and wellbeing. In a similar way, Infinite Objects transform screens into digital art performance pieces, encouraging collectors to slow down and enjoy the work for longer periods of time, just as they would with physical works.
By offering a tangibility that is both novel and relatable to traditional frameworks of art, the high-tech Infinite Object frames serve as an accessible entry point into the dynamic, constantly evolving space of blockchain-backed digital art.
Unit London’s collaboration with Infinite Objects on the occasion of Art SG aligns with the gallery’s core mission to empower artists, engage a new cohort of collectors and, ultimately, help bridge the gap between physical and digital art.
Join us at our Art SG (booth RE05), on view until 15 January 2023, for the exclusive pre-release of this collaborative edition with Krista Kim and Infinite Objects. Otherwise stay tuned for the general release, launching on 17 January 2023, exclusively on our website!
