Introduction

Ziping Wang’s works are comprised of colourful collated imagery, which all separately demand the viewer’s attention. Her works strive to capture mental moments of anxiety and are therefore characterised by their fragmentary nature. Still lifes, saturated tonal areas, pop cultural and art historical references are all blended together to create these striking collage-like paintings that mirror the fragmented contemporary mindset.

Ziping Wang was born in 1995 in Shenyang, China. Her distinctly fragmented and colour-saturated artworks seek to highlight the contemporary phenomenon of information overload, while chiming with sensory memory triggers through depictions of children’s toys, logos and food packaging. The work also grapples with the concept of transcultural identity over time – how do our memories of childhood in one place inform our present day actions in another?

Biography

Ziping Wang was born in 1995, in Shenyang, China, where she currently lives and works. She holds an MFA from the Pratt Institute, New York, and a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design.

Recent solo and group exhibitions include Traces of Love and Timeless Adventure, Galerie Marguo at K11 MUSEA (Hong Kong, 2023), The Loudest Silence, Peres Projects (Seoul, 2022), The Drawing Centre Show, Le Consortium (Dijon, FR, 2022), Unit at Nassima Landau Art Foundation (Tel Aviv, 2022), WT Foundation (Kyiv, UA, 2021), The Other Landscape, Unit (London, 2021).

Wang was the recipient of the First Place prize of the 12th Annual Juried Exhibition at Archway Gallery (Houston, 2020). She recently created a Sweet Tooth handbag, one of the five artistic collaborations in the 5th edition of the Artycapucines Collection by Louis Vuitton. Her works are in the collections of the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami, USA, Zhuzhong Art Museum, Beijing, X Museum, Beijing, K11 Art Foundation, Hong Kong, Le Consortium, Dijon, France, Yageo Foundation, Taipei, and Longlati Foundation, Shanghai, China.
