Offering immersive landscapes of bodies curved and intertwined, painted in polychromatic swathes of distinctive brushstrokes, Beard reduces figures to vibrant fields of colour. With a thick application of paint, Beard creates rich, visceral textures that mimic soft contours of skin, inciting the viewer’s sense of touch. As a result, the imagery, though sourced from pornography, is anything but crude. 

Using her knowledge of cinematography, Beard draws the viewer in for a closer physical and emotional inspection by employing close-up, detailed crops. The enticing colour palette contrasted by the striking intimacy of the subjects adds an almost performative quality, forcing the viewers into a voyeuristic act of being part of an unseen audience. 

Redefining what was initially rooted in objectification, Beard gives voice to female and queer sexuality, allocating attention to experiences that are often censored by the mainstream. In an uncensored exploration of human connection, Beard provides the space for interrogation of desire, sexual freedom and the power of self-expression through body language. Beard’s characters are lustful yet emotional, voluptuous yet subtle, fantastical yet realistic as the artist dispels any shame or complex surrounding sex, creating women in complete control of their desires.
