Platform | Imaging Blackness

Due to overwhelming popular demand, Platform's first photography group show Imaging Blackness has been extended until 22nd November.

In an aim to bring together voices that are representative of the current and future generations, Imaging Blackness is a result of 16 contemporary Black photographers coming together to boldly and inventively portray their communities as they see and participate in them, rather than as they are often portrayed. With a strong focus on individual and self-represented narratives, this exhibition seeks to explore the Black identity today, through the intimacy of a camera lens. With a subject matter so deeply personal, the exhibition invites the viewer to consider all the various facets of the Black experience.

"Blackness is not a monolith; this exhibition shines light on the many aspects of Blackness. Colourism, diaspora, queerness and cultural heritage are explored by the camera with powerful rage, beauty and celebration. We are in the midst of a powerful new generation of Black photographers, transcending limitations and reflecting Blackness beyond limits and into the realms of which we did not know possible. With strength, grace, and power – Imaging Blackness is an immersion into the culturally rich worlds of these new trailblazers."
