Mauro Martinez at ART021

Unit London is thrilled to announce that Mauro Martinez is featured at Shanghai's ART021 with Brownie Project (Booth E1-11), from 8th – 30th November.

On the occasion of ART021, Mauro Martinez will present work in a group display by Brownie Project, alongside contemporary artists including Cai Yaling, Cao Shu, Chen Wencun, Teom Chen, Nicole L’Huillier, Lin Wen, Wang Sicheng and Xue Fei. The display explores how contempoary artists shape today's reality.

Mauro Martinez's work juxtaposes common pictorial forms from art history with the monotonous streams of online imagery that we, as an increasingly digital society, are so often subjected to. Skillfully utilising metaphor, irony and dark humour, Martinez’s paintings respond to the doctrines of internet culture, at once critiquing and mocking our relationship with contemporary imagery. His style is malleable, rejecting creative rigidity in favour of listening to the requirements of an image; his source image leads him, dictating the visual outcome of the piece, leaving the artist to focus purely on technique and methodology.

Accompanying the art fair, Martinez's work will also be shown at Brownie Project's group exhibition #TGIF - Thank God It’s Fungible (6 November 2021 – 14 February 2022). The multi-disciplinary exhibition consists of installations, sound, paintings, sculptures and mixed-media moving images that unfold life's fungible moments as mankind starts to enter a Metaverse signified by non-fungibles. #TGIF seeks to unveil the interlinked and ever-compatible realities within the static facades of what we see.
