Kevin Klamminger

B.1990 Based in Vienna, Austria

Introduction

Influenced by a balance between conscious and unconscious minds, Austrian artist Kevin Klamminger’s paintings combine a hyperrealist visual language with a surreal atmosphere. His approach does not attempt to over-analyse his artistic process, but visualise the process itself, translating his artistic inner dialogue onto the canvas as it takes shape. The representational elements of each artwork ground the viewer in the real world, despite Klamminger’s dreamlike use of surreal motifs and symbols such as horses, butterflies, shields and spears. While the artist does not abdicate responsibility for the significance of these symbols, he never wants to foreclose the interpretations of others. In turn, the viewer’s search for individual meaning becomes crucial to the artist’s process and to the artworks themselves.
