Introduction
“My intention is to create zen for the digital age.”
– Krista Kim
For the 2024 edition of Art Dubai, we are pleased to present new works by the internationally acclaimed digital visionary Krista Kim.
Featuring large-scale UV prints, alongside a selection of video works from the artist’s most distinctive digital series, our presentation offers a survey of the visual vocabulary and artistic philosophy that has marked Kim’s singular style since 2018.
At the core of Kim’s practice is a desire to create experiential mediative moments through subtly shifting panoramic abstractions. Intended to provide some respite from the information inundation typically associated with screens, her compositions embody a philosophy of Digital Humanism, an examination of digital tools in relation to the human condition. In 2014, Kim articulated her desire to converge technology with visual culture for the wellbeing of humankind in her Techism manifesto. This has since underlined her artistic creations and is exemplified by each work on display.
Kim’s solo booth at Art Dubai traces the development of her practice through a presentation of brand new works alongside a small selection of prints created in 2018. Whether displayed on-screen or physically printed on plexiglass, the works showcase Kim’s sustained experiments into soft colour graduations and ethereal shapes. Through this curated combination of physical and digital, our booth also speaks to the artist’s exploration into the ever-increasing interconnectivity between our physical and digital realities.
Each work on display at our booth spotlights Kim’s unwavering commitment to the transcendental qualities of light, colour and motion. For Kim, light “is the new ink”, and by imbuing her works with its ethereal qualities she seeks to create beautiful moments of stillness and healing. Combining technical virtuosity with her passion for light, pigment – and sometimes sound – Kim demonstrates digital software’s ability to illuminate our lives.
Art Dubai is held at Madinat Jumeirah, and runs from 1 to 3 March 2024. Find us in the Digital Section, Booth X9.

Biography
Krista Kim (b.1976) is a digital artist based between Toronto and Los Angeles. Her work is imbued with a sense of transcendence and meditation, created using a visual language that she intends to act as a digital consciousness. One of Kim’s most notable works is Mars House, the first digital house NFT, which sold on the SuperRare platform for 288 ETH, equivalent to $512,000 at the time. Often compared to surrealist depictions, her works exemplify the sublime, while she produces experiential zen moments through her multidimensional light installations. In 2014, Kim founded the Techism movement, which promotes the convergence of art and technology. In June 2022, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art acquired Continuum Los Angeles, her work which takes inspiration from the vibrant, ever-changing skies of the city, visually represented as a 40-minute gradient display.
