Mr Jago

Landing approximately halfway between the winter solstice and spring equinox, Imbolc is the traditional Gaelic festival, marking the beginning of spring, from which Mr Jago’s latest body of work takes its name.

Both created in this special period of year, and full of the hope that its namesake festival represents, Imbolc continues Mr Jago’s exploration of humanity’s relationship with nature.  Mr Jago’s newest solo exhibition with Unit London celebrates the promise of renewal, new beginnings and the quickening of life.

“In one way or another, we have all lost something over the past year.  Whilst we will, no doubt, continue to mourn those losses, and may even experience further losses, there are, at last, reasons for optimism. Imbolc attempts to capture that expectancy. 

“I am deeply concerned about how we have treated the natural world. My past work has, therefore, often been about the simultaneously wonderful and horrific ways humanity coexists with nature. Imbolc, on the other hand, shakes off some of that tension; this show is very much about optimism.  

The festival, Imbolc, is about making outer and inner space for new beginnings. As a body of work, Imbolc is a looser, more exploded and more intuitive collection of paintings, that have been created from altogether more positive place of inspiration for me.” – Mr Jago
