Unit London is thrilled to announce Vanguards, an upcoming group exhibition that introduces some of the most exciting and forward-thinking international artists emerging into the industry.
In the midst of an all too frequently exclusive and impervious art-world, the exhibition endeavours to provide visibility and recognition to artists who share distinctive and pioneering voices, giving space to the breadth and variety that innovative talent has to offer. Fostering a diverse creative environment, the exhibition aims to showcase those new perspectives and visual languages that are addressing and probing the crucial issues of our contemporary experience.
The exhibition sees artists like Nettle Grellier displaying moments of relaxation and repose. In an often male-centric world, her works, characterised by soft and neutral tones, offer us moments of intimate interaction between women. Equally, Hannah Lupton Reinhard uses a bold and lurid palette to cross reference her own Jewish heritage with notions of female joy and bonding. In a similar vein, Mark Corfield-Moore draws from his own diasporic identity, incorporating weaving techniques from Northern Thailand into his practice in order to explore the overlap between personal and collective memory. Mexican artist, Amadeo Morelos, engages with the art historical legacy of Greek mythology, transforming these narratives through his own contemporary lens. Similarly, Chinese emerging artist, Tan Yongqing, employs familiar yet distorted imagery to convey a deep concern for the individual and for social issues. While the ethereal works of Julia Bennett consider deeply the nature of human existence.
Above all, Vanguards strives to gather together a group of distinctive and pioneering voices. As such, the exhibition gives space to the breadth and variety that innovative talent has to offer. Fostering a diverse creative environment, Vanguards aims to illuminate those new perspectives and visual languages that are addressing and probing the crucial concerns of our contemporary experience. In combining these diverse and original artistic voices, Vanguards draws on the deeply personal while simultaneously speaking to broader and more universal notions.
