‘From Grain to Blossom’ is a software-generated video that aims to showcase the different metaphorical stages of seed development until it blossoms into an artificial flower. The video is paired with 100 uniquely generative images representing the distinct phases of this flower’s morphological development.
The software is based on the Superformula by Johan Gielis, a mathematical equation used to describe complex shapes found in nature, including those in flowers. Each image reveals the progression of a single argument in the formula, allowing viewers to witness the incredible transformation from seed to blossom.
This artwork is also a metaphor for growth and development, representing that every living thing goes through a series of changes before it reaches its current shape. The project is a testament to the complexity of nature.
This project is an incidental result of the more extensive project, Plant Script.
This work also includes the option to produce accompanying Archival Pigment Prints on Hahnemuhle German Etching Paper, at either 20 x 20cm or 50 x 50cm. Please contact web3@unitlondon.com for more information.
