Heliodoro Santos’ brand new collection, Multiplexing Reality, exists at the intersection between nature, technology and human perception.
Working with computer vision and generative algorithms, Santos infuses familiar landscape scenes with the intricate and eerie effects of artificial intelligence. Striking a delicate visual balance between our organic and inorganic worlds, Santos’ seeks to unveil how machines process a vision of the environment, and how this intertwines with our own imagination and perception of nature.

Inspired by 19th century European landscape painters, such as Charles-François Daubigny, Carlos de Haes and Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, Santos seeks to use the computer as his paint brush, building a bridge between traditional painting and creative coding techniques. Drawing from the colours, perspective and expansive depth of these paintings, Santos’ enigmatic dreamscapes transport us to a world where the visual language of the past, present and future are united.
Santos’ process is an iterative one, starting with training a deep learning AI model on over 1,500 images of these 19th century masterworks. He then flips between generating synthetic images with this model and processing the results via computer vision algorithms. As groups of pixels are mixed and relocated across different images, Santos crafts spaces that are at once expressionistic and hyperreal, beautiful and eerie.
Distinct yet aesthetically linked through hyperreal details and vibrant hues, these digital dreamscapes make the perfect pair.
Mint Multiplexing Reality I now, and gift the second work to someone special. We’ll airdrop it directly to them on 19 December 2023.
